4/24/2026

We are very pleased to announce that Gamban is now available for free for all Michigan residents through the Michigan Gaming Control Board.

Residents can claim a free Gamban license at no cost, with no requirement to enrol in a self-exclusion program.

How can I access Gamban for free in Michigan?

Claiming a free Gamban license is simple. Michigan residents can:

  1. Visit www.michigan.gov/mgcb/resources/responsible-gaming/gamban.
  2. Select the Gamban free license offer and create a Gamban account.
  3. Download and install Gamban on all personal devices — the license covers unlimited devices in the household.

Technical support is available through Gamban for installation assistance.

How does Gamban work?

Gamban blocks all online gambling content, regardless of regulatory status — including casino games, sports betting, poker, slots, social casinos, crypto gambling, and NFT-based wagering — providing comprehensive coverage that extends beyond licensed Michigan operators to include unregulated and black-market sites.

Residents can claim a free license, available for terms ranging from 1 to 5 years. The initiative represents a significant expansion of the MGCB’s responsible gaming framework, providing residents with a practical tool to help them limit or eliminate access to online gambling.

Why has Michigan taken this step?

Michigan was one of the first states to legalise online sports betting and online casino gaming, and has experienced significant growth in digital gambling activity. The MGCB have stepped up to ensure robust consumer protection is in place.

Michigan Gaming Control Board Executive Director Henry Williams said: “Michigan is committed to ensuring that the expansion of legal gaming comes with the strongest possible safeguards for our residents."

“Our partnership with Gamban gives anyone who wants help a free, proven tool to block access to online gambling — instantly and across all their devices.”

Matt Zarb-Cousin, Director of External Affairs at Gamban, said: “We are delighted to partner with the Michigan Gaming Control Board to make Gamban free for people where cost might otherwise be a barrier.

When someone takes the first step toward quitting gambling, they will be made aware of all the services available in the state via the Gamban app, while it works to block gambling sites and apps in the background. This approach has improved overall rates of abstinence and recovery in other jurisdictions.”
