Help Us Support Crucial Research on Gambling and Mental Health

We’ve been approached by the National Centre for Social Research (NatCen), who are conducting a major study commissioned by GambleAware. The research is exploring the links between gambling harms, suicidal thoughts or behaviours, and access to treatment and support.

NatCen is looking to interview people who have experienced both gambling-related harm and suicidal thoughts or behaviour. Interviews will run until the end of June 2025, are entirely confidential, and participants will receive a £50 Love2Shop voucher as a thank you.

Who can take part?

You may be eligible if you:

  • Have experienced gambling harms
  • Have also had suicidal thoughts or behaviour

There will be a short screening call (up to 30 minutes) to confirm eligibility and ensure your wellbeing is supported throughout the process. Interviews will last around 90 minutes and take place online or by phone at a time that works for you.

What will the interview involve?

Topics will include:

  • Your experience of gambling and how it may relate to suicidal thoughts or actions
  • Life factors that influenced your mental health or gambling behaviour
  • How easy or hard it was to get support
  • Any stigma you’ve faced
  • Your ideas for better treatment and support services

Participation is voluntary, confidential, and you can withdraw at any time.

Why is this important?

The findings will help inform future gambling harm prevention, treatment, and mental health support strategies in the UK. Your voice can shape how services are designed.
